Non-prescribed nasal drops or sprays are also effective in controlling the symptoms. However, you should not exceed using these medications for more than five days which are the length of time for recommended use. Oftentimes, antibiotics are given for 10 to 14 days. With the treatment and proper rest, the symptoms usually disappear and you will no longer need antibiotics.

To lessen the congestion associated with sinusitis, warm moist air may alleviate congestion you are feeling. A vaporizer or by just inhaling steam direct from a pan of boiling water (removed from heat) will alleviate congestion. Saline nose drops will help a lot. Once your sinus infection is severe, usually oral steroids are prescribed to reduce the inflammation. This is given only when one or two of the medications given seem to have no effect on the person. Antibiotics are prescribed to get rid of bacterial infection found in the sinuses. Antihistamines maybe recommended in treating allergies. There are antifungal medicines prescribed if you have fungal sinus infection.
