People seem to be displaced whenever the clock switches its direction. Whenever, there is time change, people feel like they should not be there and people where thrown off balance for several days and struggle so that they can cope up whenever time change takes place. However, there are reports on the number of health issues during the first day related to time change. There is increase number of accidents during the first day of daylight saving time, increase in suicides and heart attacks although, it is still unclear if these health issues were caused by time change.
Why do researchers relate time change to some health problems? Accidents that occur at the workplace most often happens as a side effect of the one hour loss of sleep. The margin for error is not so big though but still, when a person is lacking some sleep, he may not be himself which may result in injuries at work.
Again, the relation of the increase in rate of heart attack was recorded to increase on the first three weekdays by 5%. There was no definite conclusion though of the effect of the change of time to heart attack or the connection between the two. This goes the same to the increase in occurrence of suicide whenever there is a shift to daylight saving time. The main reason of changing time on our clocks is to be energy efficient however, this method strays our lifestyle from the natural rhythm of our body. In the natural context of our life, our body will go to sleep once it turns dark and will awake once the natural light begins to appear. No matter how many lights are lighted in our homes, still our body clock will go for the restful night sleep.
An hour back to the standard time actually gives our body more time to get accustomed to natural light. Some may wake up too early for a couple of nights, some may just wake up early to prepare for work but may need to have one more cup of coffee before they start the day. The bodies get accustomed naturally to the change in time but then hitting our pillow one hour earlier will be a luxury to most of us.
Hormonal levels, body temperature, blood pressure and other activities are affected by the changing time. The problem occurs during the spring time when they find themselves in low mood and time seems to be dragging them. During this time there is an increase in workplace injuries because often times the body gets tired. The study on time change actually doesn’t really adjust naturally to daylight savings time.
We have to learn with the less light during the night time. Use a method so that you can have a routine and have a good sleep. Turn off the light or make it dimmer a little earlier, eat an early dinner and maintain a good diet. Turn down any noise that you usually have at night and enjoy the time when your body can relax earlier than usual.
